Bloomington Residents Begin Recovery After EF-2 Tornado
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — The aftermath of an EF-2 tornado left a trail of destruction on a street near Old State Route 37, where trees were shattered and homes severely damaged. Local resident Christine Fleener was in her bathroom when the tornado struck, describing the terrifying sound as "pebbles hitting metal." Upon venturing outside, she was met with devastation, noting that “everything is upside down.”
While Bloomington was hit hard, the storm took a tragic turn in Linton, approximately 40 miles west, where lives were lost. This reality weighed heavily on the minds of those left unscathed. Fleener reflected on the situation, feeling grateful to be safe, stating, “There were a whole bunch of angels working overtime.”
As the community shifts focus to cleanup, resident Jennifer Tomlinson is on a mission to reunite family photos that have surfaced in her yard, emphasizing the importance of these mementos to their rightful owners. “This is part of their history,” she remarked.
Looking ahead, Fleener proposed a block party to celebrate their survival once the cleanup is complete, highlighting the newfound appreciation for their neighbors as they worked together during this crisis. Despite the destruction, the resilience of the community shines through as they band together to support one another in the recovery process.
