Weather Update: Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Expected in Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Central Indiana is bracing for a wet Tuesday, with moderate to heavy rainfall forecasted for the morning hours. Thunderstorms, some potentially severe, are expected to develop later in the afternoon and continue into the early evening. The primary concerns from these storms include strong winds, potential tornado spin-ups, and hail.

Temperatures will remain in the 60s across Central Indiana, while parts of Southern Indiana may reach the 70s. Wind gusts, not associated with thunderstorms, could reach around 20 mph this afternoon.

Tonight, the storms will persist mainly from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., tapering off after midnight, leaving behind mostly cloudy skies and low temperatures around 60°F.

Looking towards Wednesday, overcast skies will dominate, with the possibility of spotty showers, albeit lighter than the previous day. Highs will only reach the mid-60s, making Thursday the coldest day of the week with similar cloudy conditions and temperatures around 60°F.

The forecast begins to clear on Friday, with partly cloudy skies and a high near 64°F, paving the way for a drier weekend. Race weekend is set to be favorable, kicking off with sunny weather on Saturday, reaching the upper 60s. However, rain could return on Sunday, primarily affecting the southern regions of the state.
