Wet Weather Forecast for Indiana: Storms, Flooding, and a Cool Trend Ahead
Indianapolis (WISH) — A wet and cool weather pattern is expected to persist across Indiana through the end of the week, impacting outdoor activities and raising concerns for severe weather and flooding.
A significant area of convection is currently moving into the state, with a tornado watch issued for the extreme southwestern region. Widespread showers and thunderstorms will continue throughout the morning. While conditions in central Indiana are likely to remain below severe thresholds, heavy rain and gusty winds are anticipated, particularly late this morning.
Rainfall is expected to taper off by early afternoon, potentially allowing the atmosphere to destabilize and lead to stronger storm development later in the day. Central and southern Indiana face a slight risk for severe storms, with damaging winds being the primary concern. Severe weather is forecasted between 2 PM and 9 PM, with rainfall totals possibly reaching 1 to 2 inches, and localized areas exceeding that amount.
As temperatures drop, highs in the metro area may only reach the 60s today, continuing into Wednesday with cloudy and damp conditions. Fortunately, drier weather is anticipated for Carb Day on Friday, with highs around 65°F. While Race Day on Sunday is leaning towards being mostly dry with temperatures near 70°F, some rain may linger in the southern parts of the state. Memorial Day could see slightly increased rain chances, but it’s not expected to be a washout, with highs in the lower 70s.
