Indiana Launches Innovative IN.gov Website with AI Chatbot Feature
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The Indiana government has unveiled a revamped IN.gov website, featuring a cutting-edge AI chatbot named “Ask Indiana.” Officially launched in early May, the redesigned platform aims to enhance user experience, offering residents real-time answers to their queries 24/7.
The chatbot responds to a range of questions, from Bureau of Motor Vehicles branch hours to obtaining a driver’s license. For instance, it informs users that typical BMV hours are Tuesday to Saturday, with many branches closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Developed by the Indiana Office of Technology in collaboration with Tyler Technologies, a leading software and services company, the redesign was initiated in December following user feedback through a detailed survey. The new site also includes accessibility features like adjustable themes and font sizes, making it more user-friendly.
Graig Lubsen, Director of Communications and External Affairs for the Indiana Office of Technology, emphasized that “Ask Indiana” aims to modernize interactions between residents and state services. The AI leverages generative technology to streamline access to information, effectively breaking down traditional agency silos.
Indiana’s commitment to digital innovation comes as part of a four-year, $22 million contract with Tyler Technologies, designed to maintain and regularly improve the state’s web portal.
Accessible from the IN.gov homepage, the chatbot includes a disclaimer about potential inaccuracies in its responses and limitations regarding personal information. Despite its occasional shortcomings, “Ask Indiana” demonstrates Indiana’s forward-thinking approach to integrating technology into public service, paving the way for increased efficiency and accessibility for its residents.
