Pacers Edge Knicks in Thrilling Overtime Victory in Game 1 of Eastern Conference Finals
NEW YORK (WISH) — The Indiana Pacers made a stunning comeback to defeat the New York Knicks 138-135 in overtime during Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. With under three minutes remaining, the Pacers found themselves down by 14 points but rallied dramatically to tie the game after Tyrese Haliburton’s clutch two-pointer just before the buzzer, narrowly missing a three-pointer.
Haliburton celebrated with a nod to Reggie Miller’s iconic choke gesture but later reflected on the timing, admitting he might have “wasted it” since he wasn’t aware his shot would not count as a three-pointer. “If I would’ve known it was a two, I would not have done it,” Haliburton said.
Pacers forward Aaron Nesmith expressed the team’s determination, stating, “This is what we live for.” Coach Rick Carlisle emphasized the importance of perseverance, noting, “It’s a 48-minute game, and we always say, Pacer basketball is 48 minutes. And tonight, it was 53 minutes.”
Myles Turner praised Haliburton’s composure in critical moments, saying, “I got a lot of confidence in Tyrese to make that shot.” The Pacers’ resilience was on full display, outscoring the Knicks 13-10 in the overtime period.
Game 2 is set for Friday at 8 p.m. at Madison Square Garden, where the Pacers look to build on their exhilarating start to the series.
