Indianapolis Court Documents Reveal Defense Spending in Delphi Murders Case
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Newly unsealed court documents from the Carroll County Clerk’s Office provide insights into the funding allocated for the defense in the high-profile Delphi Murders case. Signed off by Special Judge Fran Gull, these documents were released after a request from Richard Allen’s appellate defense team to disclose previously sealed “ex parte motions for funding” submitted by former attorneys Brad Rozzi and Andrew Baldwin.
Richard Allen, 52, was convicted in November 2022 on two counts of murder linked to the deaths of 13-year-old Abigail Williams and 14-year-old Liberty German. The girls disappeared on February 13, 2017, and were found deceased the following day near a bridge in Delphi. Allen subsequently received a 130-year prison sentence, which he has sought to overturn through multiple appeals, the latest being filed on March 11.
The unsealed funding orders, covering a period from January 23, 2023, to March 4, 2025, detail requests for lawyer reimbursements, travel expenses, transcription services, and payments for experts. The court approved nearly $986,000 in defense expenditures, while just around $51,000 was denied. Notably, the documents do not reveal any funding information regarding the prosecution’s costs in the case.
The revelation of these financial details underscores the complexities surrounding high-stakes legal battles and further establishes this case’s significant public and legal interest.
