Coffeyville’s Trail Expansion Project on Track for Completion by August 2025
Coffeyville, Kan. (KOAM) – A significant expansion of the city’s trail system, part of the Rails to Trails Project, is entering its final phase with anticipation of completion by August 2025. Initiated in 2023, this project, backed by funding from a Kansas Department of Transportation grant, aims to enhance outdoor recreational access for residents.
Currently, trail users can enjoy approximately 0.82 miles of the expanded pathway that extends from Highway 166, near Braum’s, to the active construction zone. Recent weeks have seen notable progress as construction crews actively cleared numerous trees to make way for the trail, showcasing the project’s advancement.
Upon completion, the expanded trail will provide residents with new walking and biking opportunities just in time for favorable late-summer weather, emphasizing the city’s commitment to increasing recreational options. The initiative is especially important as it allows the city to pursue infrastructure improvements without relying solely on local tax revenue.
The Rails to Trails Project not only enhances the recreational landscape but also serves multiple community benefits, offering safe spaces for exercise and improving connections between various parts of the city. It promotes an active lifestyle, catering to both recreational and commuter cyclists.
As Coffeyville continues to invest in its trail infrastructure, the community can look forward to a more connected and active future. The project stands as a testament to the city’s efforts in fostering accessible outdoor activities, contributing to local well-being and quality of life.
For those interested in outdoor recreation, the full trail extension will open exciting new possibilities in just a couple of years.
