Teens’ Fate in Fatal Crash Case Weighed in Court

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — A Hamilton County courtroom was the scene of poignant arguments this week as the family of a former Hamilton Southeastern High School football star pressed for a teen suspect in a fatal crash to be tried as an adult. The court has yet to decide; a ruling is expected by Friday, following Judge Valorie Hahn’s consideration of the evidence presented.

The incident occurred on March 1, when 18-year-old Mason Alexander was a passenger in a BMW driven by the teen suspect. The vehicle was reportedly traveling southbound on Florida Road when it attempted to overtake another car. Simultaneously, a northbound Toyota RAV4 was approaching, prompting both vehicles to swerve off the road to avoid a collision. While the RAV4 hit a mailbox, the BMW struck a tree and subsequently caught fire, leading to Alexander’s tragic death at the scene.

Currently, the suspect, who has been in juvenile custody since early May, faces charges including reckless homicide and reckless driving. The Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office has emphasized the severity of the charges, which could result in the teen being tried as an adult if the court agrees to the waiver. The identity of the suspect remains undisclosed unless the transition to adult court progresses.
