AES Restores Power to 98% of Indiana Customers – Indianapolis News, Weather, and Traffic Update

Power Restoration Efforts Amid Heat Advisory in Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – As dangerously high temperatures loom, the National Weather Service has placed nearly all of Indiana under a heat advisory, while AES Indiana is focused on restoring power following severe storms that impacted the area on Wednesday. By 9 a.m., the utility company reported that 98% of affected customers had their power restored, leaving approximately 1,774 homes still in the dark.

AES Indiana, fully staffed and operating around the clock, hopes to reconnect most remaining customers by midday Sunday. Support crews from Michigan, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina have joined local teams to expedite repairs, which currently involve addressing 374 separate incidents of damage caused by the storms, including the replacement of 40 poles and 21 transformers.

In response to the current heat, AES Indiana has partnered with Indy Parks to supply ice to local cooling centers. Ice deliveries are planned for various parks, including Brookside, Frederick Douglass, and Garfield Park. Additionally, cooling centers and air-conditioned IndyGo buses are available for those seeking respite from the heat.

Residents are reminded to stay hydrated and sheltered from the sun as heat index values are anticipated to soar between 100 and 105 degrees from Saturday afternoon through Tuesday evening. The Indianapolis Public Library branches will also remain available, providing another cooling option during this extreme weather event.
