Indiana Governor Mike Braun Set to Overhaul Economic Development Board

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — In a bold move to rejuvenate economic initiatives in Indiana, Governor Mike Braun announced plans to fully dismantle and replace the board of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) during a press conference on Thursday. The current board, which includes Braun, Secretary of Commerce David Adams, and Executive Director Jeff Blade, is composed of eight members.

Braun expressed concerns over the board’s level of activity, stating, “I think that board had gotten to be maybe not as active as it should have been, and I’ve got a lot of people interested in it.” This announcement marks a significant shift in strategy for the state’s economic direction. The governor hinted at a full overhaul, citing growing interest in the board’s role.

This announcement follows earlier changes made within the state’s governance; earlier this month, Braun replaced three members of the Indiana University Board of Trustees. His actions align with his campaign promise to rein in the operations of the IEDC, particularly in light of criticism surrounding the controversial LEAP District, a proposed high-tech research park near Lebanon.

Governor Braun is expected to deliver further details about the upcoming board changes during a scheduled announcement on Monday, intensifying expectations for a more dynamic economic development strategy in Indiana.

As the state continues to navigate its economic landscape, the new board is anticipated to play a critical role in revitalizing initiatives and enhancing business growth. Braun’s decisive actions suggest a strategic pivot that prioritizes responsiveness and active governance in Indiana’s economic development efforts.
