NBA Finals Game 7: Thunder Claim NBA Championship Over Pacers as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Shines Following Tyrese Haliburton’s Injury

Oklahoma City Thunder Crowned NBA Champions in Historic Game 7 Victory

The Oklahoma City Thunder secured their first NBA title since relocating from Seattle by defeating the Indiana Pacers 103-91 in Game 7 of the NBA Finals on Sunday night. This thrilling finish was highlighted by a commanding second half performance, capping off a remarkable season in which the Thunder achieved a league-leading 68 victories.

Star player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was pivotal in the victory, posting 29 points, 12 assists, and 5 rebounds, earning him Finals MVP honors. Despite a sluggish first half, where he was the lone bright spot for the Thunder, Gilgeous-Alexander ignited his team after halftime, leading them to victory. "It doesn’t feel real," he expressed following the win, reflecting on the hard work and dedication of the team throughout the season.

The Pacers had earlier taken a 48-47 halftime lead, showing resilience even after the injury of their star player Tyrese Haliburton in the first quarter. Haliburton, who had quickly scored nine points, was sidelined by a serious leg injury that reportedly could affect his availability for the upcoming seasons. His absence proved detrimental, as the Pacers struggled to convert opportunities in the second half.

Oklahoma City’s defense, notorious for its intensity, dominated via a turnover battle, forcing Indiana into 21 turnovers and converting these into 32 points in transition. Additional contributions came from Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren, who added 20 and 18 points respectively, further solidifying the Thunder’s control.

As the final buzzer sounded, the Thunder embraced their fans in celebration, marking the franchise’s first major championship and establishing a legacy in Oklahoma City.
