Butler University Launches Institute for Sports & Entertainment to Boost Indianapolis’ Aspirations
Indianapolis, IN – In a commitment to solidify Indianapolis’ status as a premier sports capital, Butler University has announced the establishment of the Butler Institute for Sports & Entertainment (BISE). This new initiative aims to foster talent, research, and partnerships to bolster the region’s influence in the sports and entertainment sectors.
Collaborating between Butler’s College of Communication and Lacy School of Business, BISE aspires to connect the university’s academic resources with Indiana’s burgeoning sports industry. It aligns closely with the Indiana Sports Corp’s (ISC) Vision 2050, aiming to enhance Indianapolis’ appeal as a sports destination.
"BISE is designed to serve industry needs while enriching our students’ educational journeys," said Mark Apple, Butler’s Director of Communications. The institute will emphasize experiential learning, media production, business analytics, and fan engagement.
Sarah Myer, ISC Chief of Staff, highlighted the importance of investing in future talent, stating, "This initiative connects world-class education with real-world experiences, creating a robust talent pipeline."
BISE will utilize Butler’s faculty, students, and resources to support local sports and entertainment organizations. Initial partnership with the Hamilton County Sports Authority will see BISE participating in the communication and marketing efforts for the upcoming LIV Golf Indianapolis 2025 tournament.
Professor Bob Schultz, with extensive experience in local business leadership, will head BISE, further ensuring that the institute effectively contributes to Indianapolis’ sports and entertainment landscape.
