A special committee has been appointed by the City-County Council in Indianapolis to investigate sexual harassment allegations within the city government. This committee was formed in response to allegations made against Mayor Joe Hogsett’s former top aide, Thomas Cook, as well as other city officials. The Committee on Committees appointed five Democrats and two Republicans to conduct the investigation. The committee’s task is to look into all allegations of misconduct within the Hogsett administration and his campaign.
The committee members were chosen based on their availability to commit to the investigation, according to Council Majority Leader Maggie Lewis. The last time an investigative committee was formed in the city was in 2013 to look into SuperBowl spending. Mayor Hogsett has expressed support for the council’s decision to create the committee and emphasized the importance of creating a safe and confidential environment for employees to report harassment.
The Committee on Committees is responsible for appointing members to various council committees and is comprised of three council leaders. The investigation is seen as a way to ensure accountability and transparency within the city government. Mayor Hogsett has pledged to work with the council to make necessary changes to policies and practices to address and prevent harassment in the workplace.
