Israel conducted air strikes against Yemen’s Red Sea port city of Hodeidah in response to a drone attack by the Houthi group that killed one person in Tel Aviv and injured 10 others. The Israeli military stated that it targeted “military targets” in Yemen, while the Houthis said the attack hit oil storage facilities and a power plant, resulting in casualties and fatalities.
Houthi spokesman Mohammed Abdel Salam condemned the Israeli aggression, stating that it aims to pressure Yemen to stop supporting Gaza. Hamas also condemned the assault, warning of a change in the equation due to Israel’s actions.
Israeli Defence Minister Yaov Gallant praised the attack as a warning to adversaries, emphasizing that any harm to its citizens will be met with a response. The Houthis have been targeting shipping lanes in the Red Sea, launching ballistic missiles and drones at Israel. Despite US and UK air strikes in Yemen, the Houthi attacks continue.
The escalation in violence raises concerns of a regional war, with Israeli forces already stretched thin dealing with Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon. The Israeli Air Force’s potential deployment to more areas like Yemen adds pressure on Israel’s military capabilities. The situation remains tense as multiple fronts are opened in the region.
