The Indianapolis City-County Council has passed a proposal to increase the pay of some high-ranking city employees, including the mayor. The raises will take effect on Jan. 1 for all elected leaders except the mayor, whose salary will only increase in 2028 at the start of the next term. Despite some opposition, an amendment to postpone the pay increases was not successful. The Republican Minority Leader, Brian Mowery, expressed support for the pay raises but disagreed with the timing of the increases. He highlighted the importance of addressing this issue and commended the progress being made. The proposal also includes pay increases for other county offices, such as the assessor, auditor, clerk, coroner, recorder, surveyor, and treasurer. The Council’s decision reflects ongoing discussions about fair compensation for elected officials in Indianapolis.
