Prosecutors announce conviction of Indiana woman in 2023 Fayette County murder

Amanda Don Soultz, a 32-year-old woman from Indiana, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in connection to a 2023 incident involving robbery, kidnapping, and murder in Fayette County, West Virginia. Along with Andres Torres, Soultz kidnapped, robbed, and killed Michelle Smith after a dispute over a watch sold to Smith for $50. After the sale, Smith listed the watch on Facebook Marketplace, angering Torres and Soultz. The two subsequently restrained Smith, beat her, and ultimately shot her after finding the watch in her possession. Smith was discovered by her son 12 hours later and succumbed to her injuries on March 31. Despite claiming that she acted out of fear, evidence suggests that Soultz and Torres continued to work together and even discussed marriage in recorded phone calls from jail. As part of a plea deal, Soultz faces a life sentence with the possibility of parole after serving 15 years. She is set to be sentenced on February 11 at 10 a.m.
