The first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff will feature a match-up between the 10-seed Indiana University and the 7th seed Notre Dame. Both schools had previously agreed to play each other in a home-and-home series starting in 2030, but the rare in-state game will be held on Dec. 20 at Notre Dame Stadium. This will be the first meeting between the two teams since 1991, with the last time the Hoosiers defeated the Fighting Irish being in 1950. Notre Dame dominates the series with an overall record of 23-5-1, with the last time the Hoosiers beat Notre Dame in South Bend being in 1898.
The winner of this historic match-up will move on to play against the Georgia Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day in New Orleans. The CFP Selection Committee prioritizes conference champions, which is why both schools are seeded lower than their actual rankings. IU finished the regular season ranked 8th, while Notre Dame finished 5th. This upcoming game has already divided Indiana households, as fans eagerly anticipate the outcome of this long-awaited match between the Hoosiers and the Fighting Irish.
