Doctor facing accusations of abusing Indiana University athletes repeatedly exercises Fifth Amendment right during deposition

The former Indiana University basketball team doctor is accused of sexually assaulting players invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination multiple times during a recent deposition. Dr. Bradford Bomba Sr. declined to answer questions about performing rectal examinations on athletes and whether he was instructed to do so by then-coach Bob Knight. The deposition was part of a federal lawsuit filed by former players Haris Mujezinovic and Charlie Miller against the university, claiming Bomba sexually assaulted them under the guise of physical exams. Bomba admitted to completing questionnaires and documentation for procedures performed on players, as well as having a close friendship with Knight. The plaintiffs believe there could be many alleged victims and are seeking justice through the lawsuit. Indiana University, represented by the Barnes & Thornburg law firm, watched the deposition but did not pose questions. Bomba, who worked for the university from 1962 to the late 1990s, faces allegations of unnecessary and invasive exams. The players are calling on former teammates to come forward and join the lawsuit. The case highlights concerns about the university’s knowledge of the alleged abuse and its failure to protect the players from sexual predators. Bomba’s testimony sheds light on the ongoing pursuit of justice for the victims.
