Indianapolis police have arrested 29-year-old Uber driver Francisco Valadez for the murder of Chanti Dixon, who went missing Sunday morning. Dixon’s body was found in the woods at the dead-end in the 1800 block on Wagner Lane. Valadez initially attempted to have sex with Dixon, but shot her in the head after she laughed at him, according to police. He then hid her body behind a concrete barrier and later admitted to trying to have sex with her again. Police Chief Chris Bailey called the act “disgusting” and unnecessary, while Assistant Chief Catherine Cummings emphasized the right of women to exist freely in the community without fear. Dixon’s friend described her as caring and hardworking. Neighbors expressed shock and sadness at the proximity of the crime scene to where Dixon lived. Uber has banned Valadez from the app and is assisting in the investigation. Police advise safety measures for rideshares, such as verifying the license plate and driver, sharing location with others, and asking to stop and get out if something feels wrong. Authorities are asking for information from anyone who has had issues with Valadez in the past. Valadez has been charged with murder in connection to Dixon’s death, which has devastated her loved ones and community.
