New Whole-Body Deodorants Take Center Stage: Do They Work?
Indianapolis (Consumer Reports) – While traditional under-arm deodorants have long been a staple for personal hygiene, a new trend is emerging: whole-body deodorants and antiperspirant creams designed for use all over. With the rise of these products, Consumer Reports takes a closer look to help consumers determine their effectiveness.
Reporter Jodhaira Rodriguez, identifying herself as a frequent sweater, investigated three notable products after consulting a dermatologist. Beginning with Lume Whole Body Deodorant Plus Sweat Control Smooth Cream, she found the nightly application of cream unconventional versus solid deodorant, but praised its quick-drying formula. Following a week of use, Jodhaira reported impressive results with no skin irritation and minimal odor, even during exercise and high-stress situations.
Subsequently, she tested Sweatblock Max Clinical Antiperspirant Wipes on one underarm and Duradry PM Sweat Minimizing Gel on the other. While Jodhaira noted a strong, off-putting scent from the Sweatblock wipes, the Duradry gel was odorless and dried clear. For both products, she experienced similar dryness and minimal odor throughout the week. "These two weeks were the least sweaty of my adult life," Jodhaira concluded, revealing a preference for these whole-body deodorants over traditional antiperspirants.
Experts caution that while these products can be beneficial, it is vital to allow the body to sweat naturally, particularly during exercise or hot weather. When used as directed, whole-body deodorants are generally suitable for most users. With prices under $30, these products are accessible at local drugstores and online, offering an alternative for those seeking effective solutions for managing body odor and sweat.
